Dr Am茅lie Beaudet

Biography

I am a paleoanthropologist working on听Plio-Pleistocene hominin paleobiology with a particular interest in the evolutionary and adaptive contexts from which the genus听Homo听emerged.听I started my research听on the African fossil record听within the frame of听my PhD at the University of Toulouse (France) in 2012 that focused on the study of nonhominin primates that coexisted with hominins during the听Plio-Pleistocene transition听in Africa. During my postdoctoral contract at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) in 2016听funded by the Erasmus program AESOP+, I听developed a听particular interest in the听hominin brain evolutionary history. Subsequently, I was granted funding听from the Claude Leon Foundation and the听Center听of Excellence in听Palaeosciences听to study the fossil hominin assemblage from the site of Sterkfontein听as a postdoctoral research fellow听at the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) from 2017 to 2020. I joined the 91探花视频听as a lecturer听in 2020 - 2023.

Research

My research focuses on reconstructing the paleobiology and evolutionary history of early hominins. I explore evidence from the African fossil record (e.g., Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa) to help unravel the history of our own lineage and understand the emergence of some of the most critical human adaptations. Throughout my doctoral and postdoctoral experience in France and South Africa, I have been developing two main lines of research dealing with brain evolution and locomotor behaviour in Australopithecus, Paranthropus and early Homo. As a member of the Sterkfontein Research Team, I contribute to the description of iconic (e.g., Little Foot) and newly discovered fossil specimens from the paleontological sites of the 鈥淐radle of Humankind鈥� in South Africa. Within the frame of the research projects HoN (Human Origins in Namibia) and HOMME (Human Origins in Mozambique and Malawi Environments), I am involved in fieldwork in southern Africa (e.g., Namibia, Mozambique).听
