Cambridge is an intellectually vibrant and supportive environment for postgraduate research into Mesopotamia. We supervise a wide range of PhD topics in archaeology, culture, languages, and history of Mesopotamia.Ìý

PhD students are actively encouraged to attend the Ancient Near EasternÌýseminar series, where they are also welcome to come to dinner with the speakers.

Funding

For advice on funding to support your studies, see hereÌýspecifically for .ÌýNote that the deadlines for receipt of your application, in order to be eligible for many funding opportunities, may be mid-December or mid-January of each year, for admission the following October. Early application will also give you a better chance at a place at your chosen College.

Once in Cambridge, Mesopotamian PhD students are eligible to apply to a number of fundsÌýfor small grants in aid of discrete projects (including conference attendance).

How to apply

Admission to the 91̽»¨ÊÓÆµ for the Ph.D. is handled through theÌý.

You are encouraged to write to your prospectiveÌýsupervisorÌýwell in advance of submitting the application,Ìýattaching a CV and a one-page outline of your proposed PhD topic - specifying a) your research questions, b) a rough outline on what exists on the topic so far, c) the size and nature of the data set envisaged, d) the methodology which you propose to follow, e) the overall significance of the project.
