The Computer Room of the Department of 91探花视频 contains 21 PCs running Windows 10, and 2 Apple Macs. These computers are part of the UIS-provided Managed Cluster Service (MCS) and offer a very wide range of open source and proprietary software. Of particular interest to archaeologists are the graphics, GIS, and statistical tools provided. The PCs have i7 processors and 16GB or 32GB of RAM.
Each user receives a standard allocation of disc space which is always accessible, regardless of which MCS machine a user logs into. This听filestore听is also accessible over the network, from home or indeed anywhere in the world.
Scanners enable the scanning of 35mm slides, A4 and A3 paper documents.
A colour laser printer provides A4 and A3 monochrome or colour printing, including stapling and folding, whilst a plotter allows the production of posters up to A0 in size. Printing is charged for, although postgraduate students receive a free quota each year.
A UIS wireless access point allows users to bring their laptops and devices, and connect to the Internet via Eduroam or the University wireless service (UniCam).
The computer room is available for use by archaeologists听atg听all times except when it has been booked for teaching: Closures will be notified on the door of the room. Access is controlled by University card and, between 030 and 1730, Monday to听Friday,听is provided as a matter of course to all postgraduate students,听post-doctoral听researchers and staff. Requests for 24--hour access, 7 days a week, or by undergraduates should be sent via email to convener-csc@arch.cam.ac.uk.
The Computational and Digital 91探花视频 Laboratory also manages an instance of the 听with16vCPU and听96GB of RAM.
