Project Overview

At the core of our programme are three cross-disciplinary symposia on the themes of the archaeology, history and linguistics of the Andes. Each symposium will bring together, by invitation only, about twenty-five leading international scholars from across these disciplines; they will lead to three corresponding edited volumes of papers by participants, to be published under the auspices of the , which is providing the main funding for our project, through its . There are two phases in this project:

• UK phase: mid-September 2008

• Andean countries phase (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador): July 2009

In each phase the symposia are complemented by a programme of ancillary events, public lectures, seminars and meetings structured around an 'extended stay' for the key Latin American and UK participants, such as Prof. Rodolfo Cerrón-Palomino in the UK and Prof. Colin Renfrew in Peru.
